Rave As Religion

Interpreting the theme ‘Dance’ with a focus on clear design strategies in construction of a garment

I decided to research rave culture and created a medley of linear drawings, firstly with pen on paper and then continued to develop graphically. These drawings depict a crowd of figures merging together, much like party-goers cavorting at a rave. This design became my final print pattern

During this unit I also explored rave culture as a ritualistic and spiritual practice where the attendees aim to reach a ‘euphoric’ and ‘enlightened’ state. Therefore the conception of my garment was based on religious vestments inspired by Matisse’s famous robes designed for priests

Following on, I created a series of affirmation cards with bold, colourful graphic designs.
Each card contains small supportive messages of self-care
