Focusing on sustainable practice, this project explores an environmental approach to the production
of textiles whilst also prompting wider discussion of unsustainable consumption
Drawing from my theoretical research on the concept of ‘slow food’ which encourages mindful cooking and eating, I made a tablecloth using sustainable natural dye processes and second-hand materials. The tablecloth then became an active site for communal eating and acted as a performative installation which I documented in a series of photographs. Both colour theory and the formal elements of pattern design were crucial elements of this project. Inspired by botany, seasonal cycles and the healing properties of nature, my illustrations show twisting roots, seeds and vegetables which were transferred onto the tablecloth using stencils
